About this deal

Only started doing this today and I'd think there'll be situations (e.g. difficult to engage thread, wind) where it won't work, but it seemed potentially sometimes useful. Ceramic Grease is a durable, high-quality ceramic grease. It has been specially developed for applications requiring high pressure and temperature resistance. Les Horve (12 June 1996). Shaft Seals for Dynamic Applications. CRC Press. pp.449–. ISBN 978-1-4398-2255-5.

Granville Ceramic Brake Grease is an exceptionally high quality grease that is non- conductive and non-melting. It is highly water resistant and ideal for vehicles with ABS braking systems. Ceramic Brake Grease is free from copper additives and is suitable for use with aluminium brake components. Thorsten Bartels et al. "Lubricants and Lubrication" in Ullmann's Encyclopedia of Industrial Chemistry, 2005, Weinheim. doi: 10.1002/14356007.a15_423 The main elements of standard ATSM D4950 and NLGI's consistency classification are reproduced and described in standard SAE J310 “automotive lubricating greases” published by SAE International. On the slider pins I use Japanese silicon grease with aluminium rubbed into it and PTFE thread seal tape. On the pistons I've used silicon grease but I have some red rubber stuff I'll probably use next time I strip them. Use of ozone depleting substances in laboratories. TemaNord 2003:516. Silverhook Ceramic Synthetic grease is a very high purity synthetic (mineral oil free) anti-seize compound and assembly paste. Manufactured from micro-ceramic particles together with micronised mica, compounded in a non-melt synthetic grease base. Under pressure, the solid particles form a uniform matrix, filling surface irregularities and preventing both leaks and the intrusion of contaminants. It does not contain any metals - electrolytic corrosion is prevented as the differing metals are insulated from each other. It also does not contain any sulphur or chlorine. Jointly developed by ASTM International, the National Lubricating Grease Institute (NLGI) and SAE International, standard ASTM D4950 “standard classification and specification for automotive service greases” was first published in 1989 by ASTM International. It categorizes greases suitable for the lubrication of chassis components and wheel bearings of vehicles, based on performance requirements, using codes adopted from the NLGI's “chassis and wheel bearing service classification system”: Ian Anderson (20 August 2017). With so many metal parts within a vehicle it is important to protect them and make sure they do not seize up, a problem which is easy to avoid and solve. Another issue that can be very common is squealing - squealing brakes can also be a common problem in many vehicles but this can also be easily solved. I just did this on the 1997 Honda Accord, which (I suppose like most recentish cars), has plugs at the bottom of a tube. This requires a full length bubble tea straw. Coppaslip was very good on exhaust manifold studs when the manufacturer didn't fit brass nuts, always used it when re-assembling the manifold. It was always used on turbine housing studs too, so well capable of coping with brake caliper temperatures. New location: Navigate to USACE Home> [Publications] > [Engineer Manuals] > [EM 1110-2-1424 Lubricants and Hydraulic Fluids]Given a nut to fit in a difficult to reach spot where if dropped it would be gone, I put it in a small plastic bag. The thread could still be engaged through the plastic and, once started, the bag could be torn free, but the chances of losing the nut, while not eliminated, were much reduced. Ed, your many and varied experiments remind me of a biography of Thomas Edison I read long ago. He tried 99 different materials for light-bulb filaments before hitting on carbonised cotton thread. (I'm sure you knew that anyway). I used to use the thread tape on wheel studs, in combination with cheapo Taiwanese chassis grease, breaking the "never lubricate wheel bolts"rule in two different ways. THE HORROR. Clean all components thoroughly prior to applying the grease. For this, you are best to use our gun parts cleaner. GunCer Gun Grease is applied sparingly to the clean components. Use the dosing tip or a small brush to distribute the grease. The applied grease gradually absorbs the oil contained and thus ensures a long-lasting lubrication. GunCer Gun Grease prevents the thread from seizing up on a choke in shotgun extremely well. Soot particles can no longer penetrate the thread and the choke can be unscrewed without any problem.

Lately I use polythene sheet from the plastic bags that my breakfast steamed roll comes in, along with cheapo Taiwanese chassis grease, breaking the "never lubricate wheel bolts" rule in a third way. I do that, either by mouth or using a bicycle pump. Compressed air would be better but I don't have that (yet?). I've thought of using a toy balloon but don't remember actually trying it. The Accord takes unreachable engine spaces to the next level, though I daresay newer cars are worse. Silicone-based greases are cheaper than fluoroether-based greases. They are relatively inert and generally do not affect reactions, though reaction mixtures often get contaminated (detected through NMR near δ 0 [13]). Silicone-based greases are not easily removed with solvent, but they are removed efficiently by soaking in a base bath. A common feature of greases is that they possess high initial viscosities, which upon the application of shear, drop to give the effect of an oil-lubricated bearing of approximately the same viscosity as the base oil used in the grease. This change in viscosity is called shear thinning. Grease is sometimes used to describe lubricating materials that are simply soft solids or high viscosity liquids, but these materials do not exhibit the shear-thinning properties characteristic of the classical grease. For example, petroleum jellies such as Vaseline are not generally classified as greases.
