About this deal

At first, she was an illustrator of other author's works, but in 1960 she published Lucy and Tom's Day, which was the first book she wrote and illustrated. It's nearly Christmas, and it's time for everyone's favourite Shirley Hughes characters to get ready for the most magical time of the year.

The Shirley Hughes Collection - Penguin Books UK

Her first book - Lucy and Tom's Day - was published in 1960, and she followed it with, among others, Dogger, and the Alfie series. An excellent book set featuring four books written and illustrated by Hughes is our Shirley Hughes Collection 4 Books Set.Our family reviewers donned their festive gear this month: they’ve dodged snowball fights, survived snow day antics, seen Christmas saved by socks and learnt about Christmas traditions across Africa. Charmingly illustrated and and wonderfully written, the reassuringly warm stories of Alfie and his day-to-day activities make the ordinary extraordinary and will make a welcome addition to the bookshelf of any child aged 3 and above.

Hughes wrote and illustrated the Alfie books, this book set is the perfect gift for any curious child.stars and beyond for Shirley Hughes's stories, but a little less for this specific collection which excludes some of my favourite S. Hughes was given two Honorary Degrees, one from the University of Liverpool in 2004, and the other from the University of Chester in 2012. This collection of three classic Alfiestories is a charming reminder of just how perfectly Shirley Hughes understands little ones.
