I’ve got two chapters and at least a vague outline written for a new book, non- Mickey-related but in the same general genre. He is always ready to solve the next mystery that seems to keep falling into his lap and revolving somehow around him or his family.

Mickey 17 is an upcoming American science fiction film written, directed, and co-produced by Bong Joon-ho, based on the 2022 novel Mickey7 by Edward Ashton. In March 2020, Parasite made history when becoming the first non-English-language film to win the Oscar for best picture. The difficult part, from a writing standpoint, was figuring out how to slip the details of that world into the narrative without doing a data dump, while making sure all the time that each tidbit of information about the past related directly to what was happening in the present.That question led me to the idea of the Diaspora, which then led me to wonder what circumstances back on Earth would have given rise to something like that. Mickey7 is an Expendable: a disposable employee on a human expedition sent to colonize the ice world Niflheim.

Joon-Ho gained critical acclaim for his ability to showcase hard-hitting, relevant themes with his previous work, Parasite, including complex themes of class conflict, social inequality, and wealth disparity. There’s a bulge where there shouldn’t be one, pressing against the fabric just at the point where my glove meets the sleeve of my outer thermal. Neither of those have gotten to the stage where I’m 100% sure they’re going to work out, but so far I’m optimistic. In the novel, Mickey 7 — the 7th version of this crewmember — is left for dead on a mission, but survives.
Humor has always been an important tool in my bag, but I’m very conscious of the fact that it’s a dangerous one to deploy. In addition to Bong Joon-Ho's critical notoriety, Mickey 17 features numerous award-winning film creatives. Even if he does not know who or what he is protecting everybody from, Mickey Bolitar continues to use his sharp wit to make sure he protects them the best that he can. Mickey Bolitar, much like his uncle Myron Bolitar, has yet to grace a television screen with any TV movie or TV show. The result is alternately amusing, intriguing and horrifying, with each chapter seeming to engage a different part of your brain.
