About this deal

One of the most compelling aspects of the plot is how her mind flits back and forth as she tries to navigate the turbulent waters. As the synopsis indicates, there’s someone who doesn’t want Olivia found, and the reason was fascinating. Again, I love an author who manipulates the prose to carve out her own 'voice', but sometimes she deployed this 3 times in one pages which is too damn much. There are some interesting timeline jumps throughout so make sure you're paying more close attention than I often do when reading a novel or you may need to re-read a bit. We celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stories, traditions and living cultures; and we pay our respects to Elders past and present.

However, once I got to about half way, and discovered how complex and convoluted the story was, I could not put the book down. From the grieving father to the police officer battling internally over a very tricky dilemma, it was a gift to be able to see it from all sides through multiple POVs. The edge-of-your-seat follow-up to universally acclaimed break-out Top-5 bestseller Wrong Place, Wrong Time . that is, until a secret julia’s been harbouring of her own is suddenly in danger of being revealed and the case gets all too personal for her and those she’s protecting.

Maybe it's because I knew to expect 36 commas per sentence, but it didn't bother me as much this time around. At some point, this book became so completely convoluted that I couldn’t keep up with the identities or twists.I listened to the audiobook and although the book's full-cast narration was superb, perhaps reading the eb00k was the way to go with this title. Julia cannot find out what happened to Olivia – and she must frame someone else for her murder, or her secret will come out. The plot is complex, you do need to concentrate which is no bad thing, and then all the pieces of the jigsaw start fitting together to give you the big picture which in my case, I don’t see coming. DCI Julia Day is a dedicated, some would even say work-obsessed, detective in Portishead, England, so when she’s summoned from dinner with her husband and daughter to investigate a report of missing woman Olivia Johnson, she’s all in. She was scaredsomeone she loves being charged with murder and a 10 year sentence, but the charge would have never been made.

However, someone knows what her daughter did and blackmails her into planting evidence at the crime scene. Or if you do plan to listen to the audiobook, have a physical copy nearby as I was rereading many parts! And that’s how I knew that this was a cream-of-the-crop thriller: even in the midst of jury duty, it managed to take me away and keep me enthralled through every page. These are fully developed characters with the exception of our villain, and although all of the story lines didn’t come together in the end, I enjoyed this too much to care! The author lures you in and hits you with twist halfway in and then blindsides you with another twist before the story ends. But used for the right reasons, these techniques can work, and I think they were not only necessary to make the story work, they improved it.

Just Another Missing Person - Goodreads JaymeO’s review of Just Another Missing Person - Goodreads

The emotional depth and raw vulnerability of the characters added a human touch to the suspenseful plot. The plot is riddled with mysteries like Easter eggs that you have to uncover one by one, all interconnected. She's a master at bending different timelines, confusing our minds with multiple narrators' statements, and dragging us into a puzzle-solving frenzy. Idk what it is about her books, but in WPWT and this one, she caught me unawares time and time again. I feel like there are so many sneaky plot twists that I can’t say too much without revealing spoilers.
