About this deal

The timer on this one can be set from half an hour to 7 and a half hours, so you won't have to worry about wasting energy overnight as you sleep. You can set it to moving or stationary mode and there are different power settings too, all of which can be altered via the remote control or directly on the fan. Worried about it not cooling your entire room? It has a 60-degree oscillation angle, so it'll be pretty effective at reaching most of a large room. While many tower fans pretty much look the same, what’s inside those tall sleek bodies varies greatly—some offer smart features, while others boast ample speed settings, and so on. Therefore, it makes sense to start your search by identifying the factors that are most important to you. Carl Prouty, tech expert at Abt Electronics, suggests you evaluate any model you’re eyeing by asking yourself the following questions: “Does it fit well into the room? Do the features match up with your needs? Does the cost fit your budget?” With those tips in mind, here’s everything else worth considering while shopping. Settings

We love that this is a combination fan and heater, so it can make your home feel more comfortable year-round, and you never need to store it. Although tall, its sleek look and compact base blends into your decor better than some other options we tested. Safety features include a blade-less design, and a tip-over automatic shutoff. Although it was a bit wobbly on its base if pushed, we have found that it does not tip over easily (even when dogs and kids go zooming by). If you want a tower fan that’s frills-free, look no further than the Lasko Wind Curve Oscillating Tower Fan. Featuring an LED display screen and three fan speeds, this oscillating model provided cooling up to 15 feet away during testing, though its wind speed was on the lower side (at a distance of 3 feet away, the wind registered at 4.9 mph on high). While this device’s design and power aren’t especially noteworthy, it’s nonetheless a sturdy, reliable model that covers the basics. Key specs - Weight: 2.9kg, Dimensions: H100.7 x W19 x D11cm, Power: 56 watts, Speeds: 10, Cord length: 2m, Guarantee: two years. This fan includes a remote control with a magnetic storage feature - simply put the remote on top of the fan and it will stay put with a magnetic grip, even while the fan oscillates. When using the remote, you need a clear line of sight to the base of the fan to get any response, which can be quite annoying if there is furniture in the way.

Dimensions: 36.7 x 12 x 12 inches | Settings: 4 speeds | Timer: 3 to 12 hours | Remote: Yes | Oscillation: Yes; 180 degrees | Noise range: 33.8 to 55.5 decibels You can choose the light to be white, green, purple or blue. During our lab testing, the Better Homes & Gardens 3-Speed Tower was our best overall fan in any shape or style due to its quiet operation, strong airflow, and budget-friendly price. ( Better Homes & Gardens is owned by The Spruce's parent company, Dotdash Meredith.) And out of all of the tower fans we tested, this is the only one to offer internal oscillation, a feature meant to help keep the fan more stable, since only the insides rotate, and to provide more range of motion. It also teems with other features, including a magnetic area on top of the fan to store the remote; a 7.5-hour programmable timer; and an LED control panel that turns off after a minute, so you're not disturbed while you sleep. It’s easy to build (though a touch wobbly when done), and it’s nice and tall, so it should deliver air at a height that’s useful. Despite this, it manages to remain reasonably understated as tower fans go: a simple tube of dark grey plastic. Rather than the whole tower rotating, the centre section only turns, this looks very neat but does limit the angle of rotation to around 55 degrees, less than the 70 degrees that most models offer. However, this is offset by the fairly wide 68-degree cone of air it expels even when stationary. It's so quiet in comparison to other tower fans we've used, ideal for using as you sleep on ridiculously hot days (we're British so anything above 20 is boiling). Dimensions: 13 x 5.1 x 5.1 inches | Settings: 4 speeds, plus Sleep, White Noise, Refresh and Power Cool settings | Timer: 2 to 8 hours | Remote: No | Oscillation: Yes | Noise range: 35 to 45.2 decibels The Honeywell Quietset Whole Room is one of the most versatile tower fans we have tested, and has eight settings. This is twice as many settings compared with most of the other fans we evaluated and tested. The only fan that has more is the Dyson which had ten settings. However, the Honeywell tower fan is a more affordable than the Dyson.

The clue's in the name with the Honeywell QuietSet Tower Fan: it aims to be as quiet as possible as it cools. Yes, they are! They usually require minimal assembly. They often have speed settings that can be adjusted to suit your needs depending on the temperature of the day and your room. Many designs come with a remote control that makes it even easier to operate. Are tower fans better than regular fans? Tower fans: Tower fans are narrow, and save a lot of space. Although they are not as strong as pedestal fans, they still create a strong air-flow in the room and are very quiet. These fans usually come with a wide range of features that increase functionality. They offer a wide range of coverage, often providing a whole room with a circulation of air. Tower fans are more decorative than pedestal fans, and they often give a room a nice piece of flair or a talking point. They are usually a lot quieter than pedestal fans as well. You may find other settings that vary the speed to give you the feeling of a natural breeze – although the rise and fall of the fan noise tends to spoil the overall effect – and sleep settings designed to minimise the hum and keep you cool without keeping you awake. Your fan model might also include a cleaning brush, which you can use to scrub dust and lint out of intake grills. (A small, clean toothbrush can get the job done in a pinch.) A can of compressed air helps clear out debris from the fan's blades and the rest of its interior.

The Holmes HT38RB-U has some good features that give it extra functionality. This tower fan has the second-longest warranty of any fan we tested. I’m a product reviewer and writer with 6 years’ experience, and I specialize in researching and testing home products and appliances. As a Florida resident, I often cover topics that relate to improving your home’s comfort and air quality, and I have firsthand experience testing air conditioners, air purifiers and fans. Most recently for Forbes Vetted, I tested and reviewed the best portable air conditioners. My work has also appeared on The Spruce, MyDomaine and U.S. News & World Report. While using this fan at home, we are happy to report that it is powerful, easy to switch between modes, and very quiet, so quiet, in fact, that we sometimes forgot to turn it off! We've found it especially useful to sweep cool air from the air conditioner from one space, into another. We also noted that it produces more air than our ceiling fan. While we did find the unit to be a bit bulky compared to other tower fans we tested and doesn't really match everyone's decor style, we still think it's a great option especially for small bedrooms or offices, as it effectively cools and circulates the air and takes up a relatively small footprint. The Dyson Pure Cool Tower Fan (TP04) is one of the best tower fans you can buy, period. It features Dyson’s innovative bladeless fan technology, making it safer for homes with children and pets. Plus, it combines turbocharger and jet engine science with the firm’s Air Multiplier tech to quietly but powerfully deliver 77 gallons per second of smooth, cooling airflow when you most need it.

Sharper Image Axis 16 Desktop Airbar Tower Fan: This pint-sized tower fan is designed for use on a desk or a table, and it can be tilted to blow air vertically or horizontally. While this mini fan produced impressive airflow for such a petite device, it emitted noisy, buzzy sounds during operation. It also doesn’t have an oscillation feature like the quieter Honeywell QuietSet Mini Tower Table Fan. With the help of their vertical design, tower fans cool and circulate air in the room, and generally take up less space than box or standing fans. "Tower fans generally cover a wider area than other fan styles, so customers looking to cover the most room would benefit from a tower fan,: says Rodney George, a Best Buy home expert. "They also offer flexibility from a placement perspective as they can be placed anywhere in a room." Unlike most tower fans, the Vornado Tower 184 is a circulator, which means it doesn't oscillate to get better coverage of a room. It must be placed strategically to produce ideal airflow in a room. This means you will feel a stronger air flow across the room than immediately by the fan. If you need a fan for an office or another smaller area, the Lasko Oscillating Tower Fan is a great option, with a wood-paneled look to help it blend into any room. We noticed during lab testing that the fan feels powerful up to 10 feet away, although it’s hard to notice an airflow at around 20 feet—but this shouldn’t be an issue in small to medium-sized rooms. Plus, it's also a good choice to use while sleeping. Relatively quiet at its highest setting, it has a 7.5-hour timer and sleep mode that dims the LED display while gradually reducing the fan’s speed. When it first arrived, we found it a bit fiddly having to screw the base onto the fan, but our criticism stopped there.
