About this deal

Physical opportunities help children to feel good about themselves and can help to elevate their mood. When we exercise, our bodies release hormones called endorphins; the body's way of helping us feel great!

Children become aware of their bodies in relation to the space around them. Exercise improves a child's overall health and fitness and supports energy levels. Being active contributes to reducing the risk of childhood obesity. As children use their muscles to perform a task or skill, they build by muscle and cardio endurance, allowing them to carry out skills for longer periods of time. As children maintain their attention during physical experiences, their concentration is enhanced which increases productivity and success. Accredited by nutritionists at NHS Startwell, we take huge pride in our food credentials and ensure all our meals are nutritionally balanced.

Families

Cooking provides children with opportunities to try out using real tools, such as knives, graters and citrus squeezers. By allowing children an element of risk in these activities, they will learn how to use tools safely and start to understand safety measures. Each recipe gives specific direction to support the use of more ‘risky’ tools. Wipe up any spilt water to avoid a hazard. Supervise children when using scissors and store out of reach.

Whilst cooking, children will hear and develop new vocabulary, for example ingredients they may not have heard of and skills they have not used before such as “peel”, “sieve”, “whisk” and “combine”. These opportunities will support your child learning and using new words. With over 400 active and healthy activities, we focus on your child’s gross and fine motor development. Taking part in physical activity supports healthy growth and development, whilst providing opportunities for children to develop and learn life long skills. Children need to be active everyday to support a healthy lifestyle and development. Cooking is a scientific activity and children are able to see the changes that happen to materials by the effects they place on them. For example, while making bread they will see that the dough will rise or when making cakes, they will see a wet mixture transform into a sponge. Pointing out these differences allows children to hear and develop new vocabulary and develop new understandings. Explain to your child we are going to take part in our own Olympic games and that the Olympic games happen every four years, where athletes from all over the world come together to take part in different sports representing their country.
