It was actually Richard of York, 3rd Duke of York who adopted the Plantagenet name for him and his descendants in the 15th century. It is obscure why Richard chose the name but it emphasised Richard's hierarchal status as Geoffrey's, and six English kings', patrilineal descendant during the Wars of the Roses. The retrospective usage of the name for all Geoffrey's male descendants became popular in Tudor times probably encouraged by the added legitimacy it gave Richard's great-grandson, King Henry VIII of England. [5]

But he was betrayed by history too. Leaving no heir, his reputation was at the mercy of his successor, and Henry Tudor had too much at stake to risk mercy. Thus was born the myth of King Richard III, the man who would stop at nothing to gain the throne. Pyrrhic Victory: Margaret of Anjou and the Lancastrians think that the Battle of Wakefield and the deaths of Richard of York and Edmund are a great victory. They did not count on Edward rising up and being far more dangerous than his father. One-Steve Limit: Henry VI's son, who was known as Edward of Westminster, is here called Edouard, while Richard III's son Edward of Middleham is called Ned, to distinguish them both from Edward IV. Elizabeth of York is called Bess to tell her apart from Elizabeth Woodville. Heart Is Where the Home Is: After her traumatic marriage to the French-born Edouard, Anne and Richard get married and return to North to make their home in Middleham Castle, where they spent much of their childhood together. When they arrive, Anne even says, "We're home." If you stop reading at the end of Book II, this could serve as a Happily Ever Before. Edward IV never executed his brother of Clarence. So when he dies in April 1483, the stage is set for a different Usurper to try and claim the throne from his sons. Fearful for her brothers, the Princess Elizabeth of York is allowed to accompany them to the Tower, pledging to her mother to defend them. Meanwhile, free from his role of villain in the Tale, Richard, Duke of Gloucester, plans to rescue his nephews as well as his eldest niece, fleeing with them abroad with his family. Meanwhile a young Henry Tudor spies opportunity... Language: English Words: 8,382 Chapters: 4/? Comments: 31 Kudos: 137 Bookmarks: 36 Hits: 4,095

Nice Guy: Richard, relative to his historical reputation. Sure, he does ruthless things as he lived in brutal times, but he tries to be moral and good. Big, Screwed-Up Family: The Plantagenet-Yorks and their Neville cousins sure do count as one, what with the adultery, Malicious Slander, betrayal and full-on treason. Poor Cecily does try to keep the family together, but it doesn't go well.

Of course, that was then. Eventually, after many hardships and dangers, Galadriel and the rest of Fingolfin’s forces arrived in Beleriand; by then Feanor had been killed in battle, and his eldest son Maedhros, remorseful for his father’s treachery, made peace with Fingolfin. Oddly enough, Galadriel put her quest for a kingdom on hold even as her extended family was busy establishing themselves as monarchs in this land. Instead she traveled to the Silvan Elven kingdom of Doriath, ruled by her great-uncle Thingol Greymantle and his wife, the angelic Melian the Maia (the same class of angelic beings as Sauron, Gandalf and Saruman). Her 400 years here, learning great lore and wisdom from Melian and sharing with her stories and memories of the bliss of Valinor, has been held up by many as proof of her character mellowing. So too has the most widely accepted account of her first meeting and courtship and marriage to Celeborn, who in this version is a Sindarin prince of Doriath and grandson of Thingol’s brother Elmo. I am very grateful to Richard, for he launched my writing career and saved me from a lifetime practicing tax law. I am very grateful, too, to Macmillan, my British publisher, for deciding to re-issue Sunne in a hardcover edition. Few books ever get a rebirth like this, one that has enabled me to correct the typographical errors that infiltrated the original British hardcover edition of Sunne and to rectify my own mistakes that came to light after Sunne’s publication, the most infamous being a time-traveling little grey squirrel. In this new edition, I have also made some changes to the dialogue. Sunne was my first novel and was therefore a learning experience. In subsequent novels, I came to see that in attempting to portray medieval speech, less is more. for ancslove Fandoms: 15th Century CE RPF, The White Queen (TV), The Sunne in Splendour - Sharon Kay Penman, Historical RPF a Rose Gules or a Rose Gules en soleil (referring to his marriage with Elizabeth Woodville, of the Lancastrian party)
