About this deal

Momo, a Muslim orphan boy who is about 10 years old, lives under the care of an old Jewish woman named Madame Rosa, who was a prisoner at Auschwitz and later became a prostitute in Paris. Even if it doesn't make you want to move to France, you'll still wish you could open your window at night and hear that nightingale singing to you.

I think there are certain books that come to you when you need them the most and this was certainly true for me and this story. He lectured widely, broadcasting on television and radio, organised many international exhibitions, and helped form several museum and private collections through his gallery, Editions Graphiques in London. I get distracted very easily and I’ve never been able to sit through an audiobook in its entirety… until now.

I really liked the art discussions and to hear about her touring the city of Paris and the other areas of France. Narratives which overlap or compete are the substance of this book,’ he states in one his several introductions.

In their apartment building, Madame Rosa made a small hideout in a cellar, where she keeps artifacts of her Jewish heritage. Whilst her personality is very different to mine, I found parts of her journey to be very relatable and realistic. Until an unwelcome reminder of home proves that finding herself will require more than a change of scenery. I read this a year ago and some of the story still stick with me so profoundly; Our Women On The Ground is a collection of essays from female Arab journalists covering world events in the Middle East. The narration wasn’t anything outstanding, but I was able to visualize the setting and characters even more so than I was with the physical book. This has made him sensitive to the great complexity of France, a central theme in this, his latest book, obviously designed to be his magnum opus: a history of the entire nation over the previous century and a bit. Momo's mother abandoned him with Madame Rosa, who is essentially a babysitter for the children of prostitutes. It would’ve kept the jealousy trope that I, as an angst lover, always root for, relevant and balanced. Rose acted so dumb and naïve while in Paris, yet in America is this extremely responsible and heavily relied upon person.
