About this deal

With revealing intimacy, Tyson also shares new sides to his character: in the weeks before the biggest fight of his career in 2021 the devoted father was sleeping on a hospital floor in intensive care tending to his new-born daughter Athena who was born premature and fighting for her life. Finally, I am thankful that Tyson is happy to be candid about his own battles with his mental health. Detailing never before told stories Tyson Fury pulls no punches in his most candid and entertaining book yet. He discloses deeply moving new stories: in the weeks before the biggest fight of his career, Tyson was sleeping on a hospital floor in intensive care tending to his baby daughter, Athena, who was born premature and fighting for her life.

Fascinating insight into his mental health but very similar content as the last book (money spinner? Funny, frank and never less than entertaining, this is Tyson Fury at his very best, as you have never read before. In the process, Tyson discusses his mental health and weight battles, his faith and his greatest boxing experiences. From Irish traveller heritage, the "Gypsy King" is undefeated in 33 professional fights, winning 32 with 19 knockouts, and drawing once. He is at his most affecting when he describes the emptiness and suicidal thoughts that he has experienced in the midst of depression.

Tyson was victorious in the second fight against Deontay Wilder in February 2020, defeating his opponent by seventh-round technical knockout. It's great that he is open and honest about this, though I do wish he wouldn't use even this to push the barrow of his victory over all odds. Boxing is a very particular kind of sport, with one foot in the entertainment world and another in murky backrooms. Tyson Fury in his rematch with US boxer Deontay Wilder for the WBC world heavyweight championship in Las Vegas, February 2020.The man himself says it’s just an act, designed to maximise attention and therefore viewers and profit. If you are a fan of the sweet science, however, it is undeniable that Fury is one of the greats, and it's fascinating to see what kind of mindset got him there!

Which makes you wonder how he would handle the retirement to which he continually refers in the book. I was a bit dubious about reading Tyson Fury's third book or autobiography in as many years, but I enjoyed the book. He praises the strict moral values of the Traveller community from which he comes, but sidesteps the alleged wrongdoing of the crime boss seen in his company.

If you have read Behind the Mask a lot of the same information is here, but with the benefit of having time to reflect on everything that happened to Tyson throughout his life his early life/career, his breakdown and his second career. Yet while he has clearly suffered, there is also a sense that the illness is a cloak that covers all questionable behaviours, repositioning him as victim rather than perpetrator.

In the meantime, he’ll be fighting British heavyweight Derek Chisora (for the third time) on Saturday 3 December. Perhaps, but this is a guy who refers to himself in the third person and it’s just possible that the act has taken up more permanent residence in his personality. Other than an insight into his faith and mental health problems, the rest just felt a usual story of I did this and that, which you already knew.A lot of it has already been told in his previous books but it makes no difference because it's all relevant, and keeps you updated.
