About this deal

Something about sherry finished scotch is like glue to the inside of the mouth, especially combined with a slightly high 46% ABV. On the nose you have strong sherry, dark fruits of plums and raisins, cinnamon spice and dark cocoa. Okay, commented before I should have… bought a case of Allardice from EU this year and it *is* a 2018 bottling so I should have known this dram. The impact on the palate is rich and powerful yet smooth and creamy with a long aftertaste of spice and dark chocolate. If you have had the pleasure of tasting this whisky before then you’ll already know how fantastic it truly is.

It just so happens that the whisky in both bottles was 23 years old due to the 6 year production gap, as we all know. Named after the distillery's founder, James Allardice, this popular highland single malt has been at the centre of its core range since its re-launch in 2000 and is renowned as a great example of a sherry-focussed whisky.

My ex-wife and I (married at the time) went out for a nice dinner and I decided to treat myself with something I’d never had and when I looked at the menu this stuck out since I’d had the 12 and the 15. Water does as some sweetness but this becomes a carmelized fruit syrup that was slightly over cooked it seems. This whisky has definitely been aged in sherry casks It’s a dram I’m happy to share with my wife (sorry, bucking the trend here with being married to the same woman for over 43 years). I've often seen people comment that the GlenDronach 18 Years Allardice is their favourite of the distillery's core range. Our traditional wooden washbacks, a copper mash tun and distinctive saxophone-shaped stills help to create The GlenDronach’s elegant, complex character with tremendous depth of taste.

All Glendronach whiskies are matured in ex sherry barrels, but several different sorts are used, with the Allardice coming exclusively from Oloroso barrels. Exquisite isn’t exactly the word I’d use to describe the Corti Brothers Exquisite Whiskey, but we’ll get into that more below in the review. Anything that receives a 5+ is one of my personal favorites, and something that I save for rare occasion (unless its cheap and then I drink a lot of it). Therefore I’m very confused by this review mainly saying it’s extremely raisiny, vinegary, fungal, unbalanced? Die Aromen waren im Mund wie beschrieben und das Kitzeln am Gaumen und die beschriebene Intensität vorhanden. This lot is being sold by either; 1) a non-UK seller or 2) a VAT Registered Business, and is therefore subject to VAT. Remarkable flavours of stewed fruits and all-spice marry together with classic aged Oloroso sherry and toasted walnut bread combined with chocolate.
