A set of needle nose pliers were used to gently tighten the ball mount base without gouging the soft metal. Double Take folding motorcycle mirrors use standard RAM 1″ ball mounts as pivot points on the extension arm for maximum adjustability and impact resistance. The longer stem means the mirror will move a little more, but the benefit is that it gives a great field of view and then folds behind the headlight when you are offroad. Double Take Mirrors are built with vibration damping materials that offer a clear view of what’s behind you. On most bikes, you can fold it perfectly along the handlebars, out of the way of any conceivable crash, and without blocking the view of the speedometer or GPS. I am uncomfortable with how that message is presented in mass media, like everyone who likes to eat should open a restaurant.

My goal was to protect the bike (and myself), and be able to tell a Crown Victoria with a lightbar from a Camry with a ski rack.

As the name implies, I made this for bikes that are all about off-road, and I think it works much better than you would expect from such a small reflector. OEM financing promotions do not qualify when taking advantage of accessory and/or cash discount promotions. I'm sure it is possible to break the mirror, but I haven't succeeded yet and I've tried pretty hard, going so far as to race an enduro with the mirror in place. With that in mind, our mission is serving people who share our passion with products they can trust.

Of course, we use CAD/CAM to design our parts, and 3D printing to test models, but beyond that, our products are pretty old school. After hearing good things about the Double Take Mirrors, we decided to mount a set for a long-term test. I thought the mirror needed a ball joint instead of a hinge, since the forces in a crash are never straight in, and that led me to the idea of using RAM for the base, so that it could fold and also move when it needed to.

The round shape means that it folds down easily and tucks away perfectly, and the short stem means it stays rock solid when deployed. This kit has all the adaptors and hardware you may need to install the mirror on majority of motorcycles.

This offers a really versatile mounting system that also makes it super easy to take the mirror on and off if you are going to be riding some really gnarly off road sections and just want them out of the way.

When you make something with molding, you only get one shot at getting the design right, so you have to think through lots of aspects that aren’t immediately apparent or else changes get expensive! That willingness comes from confidence in yourself and dependable equipment, and when you have it, you can cross the continent or get lost going to get milk. We loved that- nothing could be more rewarding, and that is really the same mission we still have even if the product is totally different. A few years after the race, I got my Dakar bike back from a sponsor, and I didn’t know what to do with it until I built a bathroom with a ceiling in a warehouse. new master cylinders as a result, and I decided it was time to make a really good mirror, one that would function well as a mirror, and also protect the bike (and me) from damage.The RAM-B-108BU consists of a 1" diameter rubber ball connected at a right angle to a v-shaped base. By simply loosening the twist lever, we were able to fold the mirrors down flat over the center of the handlebars completely out of the way. I’m passionate about riding motorcycles, and that led me to this idea, but what I enjoy in my work is organizing and problem-solving. If you want to avoid contact with your helmet, the Double Take Mirrors can be adjusted out farther to the sides than OEM units.
