About this deal

Our verdict: Too fast and also pretty bulky and heavy. Plus the accelerator is too close to the brake.

Out of the box not much needs doing to the Decent One Max; it’s simple fixing ring and folding lever makes it a 10-second job to set up and collapse it for storage under a desk or on a train, though you will need a small hex key/Allen wrench to tighten the brake and you'll need to screw on the handlebars. When it comes to tyres, bigger is definitely better. The 10inch tyres provide a smooth, comfortable ride and help to reduce fatigue on longer journeys. This pneumatic setup uses the common Schrader ‘car-type’ valve ensuring you can pump your tyres up anywhere. It takes about six hours to recharge the battery – either in-scooter or slid out of its hatch – using a bulky power supply box, which uses a kettle lead to attach to the mains and an old laptop-style attachment to power up the battery. Depending on the load that this scooter will be carrying, your ride style and the weather, the ideal tyre pressure may be very different from the factory inflated pressure. Of course, what's perhaps more important than using these electric scooters on a test route is using them frequently in everyday life. So I'll also use them to commute, to explore a new location, and to visit the shops at the weekend. This teaches me a number of things, from how easy they are to lift in and out of a car boot to how easy they are to fold and unfold and how reliable they are when used heavily. It also gives me a better idea of how long the battery lasts and how long the battery takes to recharge.

Be careful on hills - most of the scooters we tested can't handle even shallow gradients, let alone steep hills. If there's a big hill ahead, many scooters will trundle to a halt, so be prepared to hop off and push. A headlight is located at the top of the stem, and there’s a brake light built into the rear mudguard. The rear mudguard also acts as an emergency brake and is part of the triple brake design of the scooter, alongside the mechanical rear disc brake and front hub motor brake. The 10 inch pneumatic tyres provide for a pretty smooth ride, comparable to that delivered by the Xiaomis (with their 8.5 inch tyres). The overall feel of the Decent One Max (and Decent One) is much like that of those first Segway-Ninebot e-scooters because of the battery placement. The rear mud guard also functions as an "emergency" brake, again like the original Ninebots. Decent do not provided braking distances but the brake is the same as the Xiaomis (it looks like the disc is manufactured by the same company). If you are not used to riding scooters, please be careful while you get used to it, and wear a helmet whenever you are out on an e-scooter. Please note, privately-owned e-scooters can not be used on public highways (roads/pavements), and can only be used on private property with the landowner’s consent. Naturally, build, weather-proofing, and wheel size are to be considered as well. Features are important too. Depending on your needs, you might need things like app support and an anti-theft system. Which brand of electric scooter is best?

Are electric scooters good for going up hills?

However, this allows the battery to be removed and replaced in seconds, and also means it’s better protected than on some other scooters, where the battery is located in the base plate. A full charge takes around five to six hours. Despite its colossal weight (20.1kg), it managed our 1:8 (12.5%) test hill quite comfortably, but failed to make it up any gradients steeper than this.

No warranty either written or oral is offered on any lot by Supreme Auctions or its agents unless specifically noted in the lots are held and should repair in any such instance prior to removal of any lots or alternatively shall pay the estimated cost of doing so byI’ve reviewed dozens of electric scooters and have developed a test route that puts each model through their paces. The route includes several inclines to see how powerful the motor is, and various road surfaces to test the e-scooter’s stability and comfort. Pneumatic tires - Pneumatic tires are essentially just rubber tires filled with air. They deliver better stability, suspension, climbing, and traction than solid tires.
